Not only is the service free of charge but the current economic situation has had a devastating effect on small to medium enterprises especially in Rotherham with unemployment rising by 2% in October 2009 from the previous year to 8.6%. The district is now reporting over 10,000 people claiming Jobseekers Allowance with unemployment figures higher than both the regional and national averages.
The challenges to the Rotherham business community have been further evidenced by the loss of production giants Burberry and Corus during the past year as well as many smaller businesses.
